VITEM III is granted to artists and sportsmen who travel to Brazil under contract to exercise remunerated professional activity upon authorization from the Division of Immigration of the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations after approval by the General Co-ordination of Immigration of the Ministry of Labour (Coordenação Geral de Imigração do Ministério do Trabalho – CGIg)).
In exceptional cases, the Division of Immigration of the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations may authorize a VITEM III without contract approved by the CGIg for participants in sport and artistic competitions who are not to receive remuneration in Brazil, even though those competitions may involve prizes in money.
The Consular Section can waive working contracts when granting a VITEM III to teams and to individuals invited to participate in events and in sports competitions by their counterpart Brazilian institutions.
When there is no working contract and no remuneration in Brazil, the Consular Section will require the documents referred to in General Requirements and a letter from the sponsoring entity in Brazil.
A VITEM III is valid for up to 90 (ninety) days and can be extended in Brazil by the Maritime, Aerial and Borders Police Division (DPMAF).
The Consular Section cannot process VITEM III applications for people who have been residing within its jurisdiction for less than one year.
