
Temporary Visa I (VITEM I) can be authorized for people who travel to Brazil as:

Researchers, professors, members of cultural or scientific missions who are not to receive any form of remuneration from a source in Brazil (with no employment link);

Students, interns;
-
Non – professional athletes under the age of 21, for the purpose of intensive training;

Volunteers for social assistance work;
In addition to the General Requirements above, in order to be granted a VITEM I the applicant must present:

a letter from the institution or company in Brazil inviting the applicant;

proof of financial resources to subsist in Brazil;

a certificate of no criminal records or equivalent documents;
The granting of a VITEM I to travelers intending to carry out scientific expeditions and/or to operate within indigenous areas will depend on previous authorization from the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Technológico – CNPq) or from the National Foundation for Indians (Fundação Nacional do Índio). Such authorization is to be presented to the Consular Section by the applicant when submitting an application.
A VITEM I will be valid for up to 2 (two) years. In the case of sport interns under the age of 21, the maximum duration will be of 1 (one) year, with no extensions. The extension of a VITEM I can be requested to the Maritime, Aerial and Borders Police Division (DPMAF) thirty days before the date of expiry of the visa.
The Consular Section can only process VITEM I applications for people who have been residing within its jurisdiction for at least one year.
In order to register with the Maritime, Aerial and Borders Police Division (DPMAF), bearers of VITEM I will receive one copy of the Visa Application Form. Bearers of VITEM I must register with the Ministry of Justice within 30 (thirty) days of their date of arrival.
